Building a Compliant Review Request System
Asking for reviews is allowed — incentivizing or gating them is not. Here's the line.
By Review Remover Editorial Team
Review gating — asking happy customers to leave public reviews and unhappy ones to send private feedback — is explicitly prohibited by Google and is FTC-enforceable.
Compliant approach: every customer gets the same request, with no conditional path based on sentiment. You can absolutely make leaving a review easier (QR codes, direct links, email templates), you just can't filter who sees the request.
Incentivization (free meals, discounts) for reviews is also banned on Google, Yelp, and Amazon and is FTC-actionable without prominent disclosure.
